Getting started
Can I volunteer with you?
Yes! We welcome all volunteers of all ages and from a wide range of backgrounds with an equally wide variety of skills and experiences. Some of our volunteer roles are for work with children or require specific skills or experience. We work together with volunteers and support them to find an appropriate volunteer role.
What happens after I email or sign up to volunteer?
We’ll get in touch with you to find out a little more about you and to talk about what the volunteer role involves or what you might want to get involved in if you haven’t yet decided what volunteering activities might be best for you.
What if I’m not sure how much time I can spare each week?
Some of our volunteer roles do require a regular commitment but we also have lots of roles and activities that don’t. You will get a chance to discuss your availability with us and you will never be asked to volunteer for any activities that don’t fit in with your schedule.
I’ve expressed an interest in volunteering but I haven’t heard back?
TrinityLearning is run by a very small team who all work part-time which means we cannot always reply as quickly as we would like. But we really value every volunteering enquiry and get back to everyone who kindly expresses an interest in supporting our work.
Volunteering with us
Can I volunteer for more than one role or activity with you?
Yes, if you have the time to do this, we will happily discuss options with you.
Will I receive training if I need it to volunteer with you?
Yes, we offer Thinking Books training and mandatory Safeguarding training for all relevant volunteer roles.
Do you reimburse expenses?
Yes, we have a small fund to cover pre-agreed expenses. TrinityLearning is a local Abingdon based charity and pays travel expenses from the centre of Abingdon. You will have an opportunity to discuss this further with us.
What do I need to provide to volunteer with you?
If you are volunteering in school or in some of our other projects which involve contact with children and young people you will be asked to provide references and will undergo an enhanced DBS check in line with our safer recruitment policies.
What if I feel nervous or have any concerns about volunteering with you?
We understand volunteering is a big commitment but we want you to feel happy and supported when you are doing any volunteer work with us. We will always make sure you have the right training, supervision and lots of support when you are with us and you can talk to us anytime if you have any concerns or questions.
