We have had a fantastic time supporting our Kingfisher Singing Group Christmas Services. The services were specially written by Deacon Selina and use simple Christmas Songs, many of which use nursery rhyme tunes. We offer the service multiple times so children can take part in small groups. Two groups came to Trinity Church, with three more groups taking part in-school and a final four sessions will be held in-school this week.
The Service intersperses the Christmas story with sensory items to help bring it to life for the children – they can smell and feel the chamomile hay in the manger and stroke some fleecy fabric as they hear about the sheep and the shepherds. Some children received small packs of resources whilst others used fleecy blankets and ostrich feathers (as soft as an Angel!)
Feedback from the school has been very positive:
“Universally, staff have been incredibly thankful for the fantastic experiences that you have offered our young people. Staff fed back that the services were engaging and child friendly as well as extremely well pitched and with relevant resources. We really appreciate how welcoming you were. Sensory cluster were also especially impressed with the mammoth turnout from the Trinity Singers today!”
Children had lots of exciting questions for us too, such as did we also know about how Jesus died on a cross? We extended an invitation to Experience Easter to find out more about that one, and how many panes of glass are there in the Trinity Windows? If anyone has counted, could you let us know?
Taking part in these services has been the most wonderful way to start the Christmas season.
